fromearth / 2050 ONE SENTENCE An interactive globe for exploring climate projections through the places we know. SHORT DESCRIPTION fromearth / 2050 is a free, browser-based experience that makes climate projections easier to explore. Search for a city, move between 2026 and 2050, compare two places and look at different climate indicators on an interactive globe. Created by fromanother, the project starts with a simple intuition: the future feels closer when it is connected to somewhere familiar. FULL DESCRIPTION Climate change is often described at a scale that is hard to hold in mind: global averages, distant horizons and very large numbers. fromearth / 2050 begins somewhere smaller and more personal — a city you live in, a place you grew up, somewhere you love. The experience brings climate projections into a globe you can explore. Visitors can search for a city, move the year control between 2026 and 2050, compare two places, switch indicators and share a view. It is designed to make the first encounter with complex information inviting, without removing access to the sources and definitions behind it. Its visual language combines a restrained interface, tactile imagery and a sense of movement. The campaign extends that language through thermal landscapes, meshes built from the experience’s climate data and the Earth from the experience. Conceptual landscapes express the idea of changing perspectives; the temperature meshes are explicitly identified as modeled climate views. fromearth is an independent creative project by fromanother. It brings together interaction, design and publicly available climate and population datasets to encourage curiosity and informed conversation. The projections describe modeled scenarios and broad trends, with different assumptions and levels of coverage. They are not predictions of the weather in an individual year or a verdict on where someone should live. WHY WE MADE IT The starting point is a place, not a statistic. We wanted to create an encounter with climate information that begins with something people already care about. A familiar city gives a distant horizon a human scale. The aim is to invite people to look, compare, ask questions and return to the sources — making a complex subject approachable without pretending that its uncertainty has disappeared. THE EXPERIENCE Start somewhere familiar Search for a city or explore the globe. The catalog includes 34,099 cities; the availability of individual indicators varies by location. Move through time Use the year control from 2026 to 2050. Intermediate values are interpolated for exploration between dataset reference periods. Change the perspective Explore warmth, aridity, relative warming, fire weather, coastal and river flooding, alongside country-level population estimates. Compare and share Put two places side by side, then share a link or a story image. No account is required. WHO WE ARE fromanother is an artist-led creative studio founded by Vicki Dang and Robin Mahieux. We bring together film, 3D art, design and creative technology to create digital and immersive experiences for institutions, cultural spaces and brands. Our work begins with a story and the people it is for. We collaborate with curatorial, scientific and education teams to turn complex ideas into experiences that invite curiosity and connection. DATA AND METHODOLOGY The layers come from different sources, grids and scenarios; they are not one integrated forecast. Values between reference periods are interpolated. Some locations have incomplete coverage, and missing data should not be read as zero risk. Any composite index in the experience is an experimental, design-based summary rather than a validated measure of habitability. WorldClim / CMIP6 Temperature, precipitation-based aridity and relative warming. The project uses MPI-ESM1-2-HR under SSP3-7.0. The 2050 climate endpoint represents the 2041–2060 period. https://www.worldclim.org/data/cmip6/cmip6climate.html ETH Zurich fire-weather dataset A 21-model ensemble under SSP3-7.0. Fire-weather days measure conditions above a local preindustrial threshold; they are not a count of fires or burned area. https://essd.copernicus.org/articles/15/2153/2023/ WRI Aqueduct Floods Coastal and river flood hazard layers under RCP8.5, using modeled 100-year events. They do not measure the number of people exposed. https://datasets.wri.org/datasets/aqueduct-floods-hazard-maps UN World Population Prospects 2024 Country and territory population estimates. These should not be described as city population forecasts. https://population.un.org/wpp/ SUGGESTED CAPTIONS Thermal identity fromearth / 2050 campaign wordmark with a thermal treatment. Campaign illustration; not a climate map. Lena Delta Lena River Delta, captured by Landsat 7 on 27 July 2000. USGS / NASA, public domain: https://www.usgs.gov/media/images/lena-delta. Real false-color satellite imagery, cropped and flipped vertically for the fromearth / 2050 campaign. The colors do not represent temperatures or a 2050 climate projection. Layered climate The same region appears as a flat geographic footprint and native temperature meshes for the 2026 and 2050 views. Height encodes hottest-month mean daily maximum temperature (°C), using the same scale. Values use the experience’s WorldClim/CMIP6 grid and year interpolation: MPI-ESM1-2-HR, SSP3-7.0. These are modeled climate estimates; height does not represent terrain elevation. Earth from the experience The Earth rendered with the model, shaders and textures used in the fromearth experience, composed as a campaign image. No climate indicator overlay. Interface footage Recorded views of the fromearth / 2050 interface, captured in October 2026, with campaign branding updated for this press kit. The live website may evolve. Motion loops Looping animations of visual elements from the fromearth / 2050 identity and experience. Isolated or composed motion assets. Thermal delta · earlier artwork The earlier delta illustration, retained as alternative artwork. Graphic colors do not represent measured temperatures or climate projections.
